Welcome to SaintFinbar.org+++++1st Day of School: September 1, 2010++++The school calendar for the year has been updated. Click on the "School Calendar" link below.

The 7th grade class joins me for homeroom, Vocabulary, Religion, and mathematics. Our current Math series, Prentice Hall Mathematics Course 2 is quite demanding. I supplement this series with an older series which includes great review work: Scott, Foresman Invitation to Mathematics. The students have class-directed lessons, take turns being teacher-of-the-day, participate frequently in contests and work with partners.

In Religion the 7th graders are assigned one religion project each trimester. The first trimester we spend a great deal of time discussing ways to be better Christians. The follow-up project involves, making a “Good Deed Puzzle.” The 2nd trimester project is devoted to role-playing out favorite saints. The final trimester project is a group effort. Each group will choose a time in Religious history and put together a biblical newspaper centered on that era. Also each trimester the students make a religion prayer journal. A small book of prayers, complete with interpretations and fabulous art work that eventually culminates in a small book of beautiful prayers.

Community service is one aspect of the 7th grade curriculum that is outstanding. The students are actively involved in the winder community. On Mondays 4 students each week assist the Burbank Center for the Retarded at their tennis classes and each Wednesday 6 students go to our local bowling alley to again assist the handicapped students. Finally, each Tuesday 4 students visit the local retirement center, Villa Scalabrini to assist the elderly.
